Seminar on Radiocommunications 2007

The 14th Radiocommunications Seminar 2007 is behind us. The selection of the main topic of the seminar 'From Idea to the Final System' proved to be suitable. At the selected lectures we heard about everything that is required to plan and construct a modern telecommunications system. At the beginning we should also mention a number of short lectures on the topic of Radio Communications during the Slovenian War. The lecturers delved into their memories and conjured up the atmosphere of that time.

Report

RADIOCOMMUNICATIONS 2007
Ljubljana, Mercurius Congress Centre, 30 May to 1 June 2007

In the three days of the seminar we listened to 29 expert presentations given by local and foreign lecturers.

The first day of the seminar was, as is tradition, intended to address regulation in the area of electronic communications. We also heard what the topics will be at the Radio Conference to be held in autumn this year in Geneva. The lectures that followed covered the Zigbee technology, nanotechnology, LTE and digital communications through twisted pairs. In the afternoon section of lectures the speakers introduced their perspectives and roles in radio communications during the war in Slovenia in 1991. A special atmosphere was created by Mr. Drago Majcen who showed the audience some short movies from 1991.

The second day was intended examine the main topic: From Idea to the Final Telecommunication System, and the planning of radio systems. The main topic was excellently summarised by Mr. Kawka's lecture that introduced the ADS planning system. In the afternoon section we heard and later on in the practical part we saw how the planning tools of some local organisations work.

The last day of the seminar was mainly dedicated to our guests from other countries. They introduced to us all important elements of the radio technique we have to take into account when planning the new system: coverage measurements, distance to fault measurements in antenna feeders, passive elements, antenna planning… We should also note the lecture of Mr. Andreas Mueller who pointed out some possible strategic ways by choosing the right system and the possible way forward for operators in the future.

At the end we should also mention our loyal sponsors and exhibitors. These include Telsima, Kompas Telekomunikacije, Debitel, Hydra & Co., Avektis, Belmet, Rohde & Schwarz, Aldena, mem, IC elektronika and Wiener Städtische. Many thanks to all of them.

See you all next year at the jubilee 15th Radiocommunications Seminar 2008.
