Report

RADIOCOMMUNICATIONS 2005
Ljubljana, Mercurius Congress Centre, June 1–3, 2005

The organisers of the seminar prepared an interesting programme (see the programme). The first two days saw lectures on two main topics: digital radio and television, and lighting protection. Below are some of the other topics covered by the seminar:
- modern microwave technologies;
- radio communications in tunnels on highways in Slovenia;
- speed measurement on Slovenian highways and in tunnels using radar;
- how did EM-waves discover the invisible fighter F-117A?;
- history of Security Functions in Mobile Networks; and
- much more…

The organisers invited respected speakers from different European countries. A very interesting and expert lecture was delivered by Mr. Momčilo Simić, a member of the Radio Regulations Board, ITU, Geneva, and Department Director of RTS SCG. He covered the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting. As a member of the ITU RRB he presented the ITU's opinion and recommendations regarding the digitalisation of that media. The audience also received a practical demonstration of differences between analogue and digital TV broadcasting. Stanko Perpar and his engineers from RTV Slovenia undertook that demonstration.

The second day was mainly intended for topics involving lighting protection and surge protection. The invited speakers were representatives of two world players in lighting protection, namely, Mr. Helmut Pusch from Dehn, Germany and Mr. Bruno Amman from Huber & Suhner, Switzerland. Given the audience reactions and subsequent survey we can say that the participants were very satisfied with these professional presentations.

The third day involved lectures on various topics, e.g. Mr. Zavasnik, a representative of the Slovenian Police, gave a lecture on radars used on Slovenian highways, while Mr. Gregorac from our Institute spoke about the 'Invisible fighter F-117A'.

26 lecturers and some 130 audience members participated at the Radiocommunications 2005 seminar.

We should also give thanks to our sponsors and exhibitors for their participation at the seminar. These include Mobitel, d.d., Kompas telekomunikacije, d.o.o., Elsinco, d.o.o., Avektis, d.o.o., Alkatron, d.o.o., Dreml, d.o.o., Belmet MI, d.o.o. and Iskrazaščite, d.o.o. from Slovenia as well as Gigahertz, GmbH from Germany.

Many thanks to all the participants, listeners, lecturers, sponsors, exhibitors and all others who somehow participated in the Radiocommunications 2005 seminar.
